The Fifth Month

About You:

You may be experiencing a variety of symptoms associated with your pregnancy, which include:

• fetal movement
• achiness of your lower abdomen or back (caused by ligaments stretching to support your uterus)
• heartburn, indigestion, flatulence, bloating, constipation, leg cramps
• increasing whitish vaginal discharge (leucorrhea)
• mild swelling of your ankles and feet, occasionally of your hands and face
• changes in your skin pigmentation of your face and/or abdomen
• varicose veins in your legs; hemorrhoids
• increased pulse (heart rate) even when resting
• a growing acceptance of and excitement about your pregnancy
• fewer mood swings

About Baby:

Your baby is growing every day and now has the following characteristics:

• is 8 to 10 inches long
• has soft, downy lanugo (tiny hairs) covering her body
• she is beginning to grow hair on her head
• her eyebrows and eyelashes begin to appear
• a protective coating called the "vernix" covers her body
