The First Month

About You:

You may be experiencing a variety of symptoms associated with your pregnancy, which could include:

• menstruation will likely have stopped, or you may stain slightly when your period would otherwise have occurred
• tiredness and sleepiness
• need to urinate frequently
• nausea with or without vomiting which may last only a brief time each day, or may last throughout the day; increased salivation
• heartburn, indigestion, flatulence, bloating
• intolerance to some foods; cravings for some foods
• changes in your breasts - they may become heavier, tender, fuller, darkening of the areola
• irritability, mood swings, weepiness

About Baby:

Your baby is growing every day and now has the following characteristics:

• is referred to as an embryo and is very tiny (smaller than a grain of rice)
• develops the neural tube which contains the brain and spinal chord
• heart, digestive tract, sensory organs, arm and leg buds will begin to form
